Linkly AI 1.1: choose where your app data is stored

·Linkly AI·

Indexes and local models can take up a lot of disk space. Many users have asked to change the default storage location. Linkly AI 1.1 adds that option on Windows, macOS, and Linux.

This release also brings Linkly AI to Claude’s connector directory and simplifies authentication in the CLI.

1. Change where app data is stored

Go to Settings → General → App Data, click Change, and choose a new location. The app restarts and migrates the data automatically.

The migration follows this order: copy the data, verify it, confirm that the new location works, then clean up the old location. Progress is shown during migration, and the process can recover if something goes wrong. To move back later, choose Restore Default.

2. Add Linkly AI directly in Claude

Linkly AI is now listed in Claude’s connector directory. Search for Linkly AI in the directory and add it, without entering an address manually.

3. Easier CLI integration for agents

The Linkly AI CLI adds the linkly auth login command, along with improvements to its help text and Skills.

Connecting to Linkly AI’s MCP service from personal agents such as ChatGPT dots, Grok bot, and Muse is now simpler. Instead of finding and copying an API key, follow the prompts and confirm in your browser to sign in to the CLI.

4. Other improvements

  • A table of contents in document previews: browse the document’s headings and click to jump to a section.
  • Automatic note draft saving: recover unsaved content after an unexpected exit or restart.
  • More accurate OCR: an upgraded layout recognition model reconstructs headings, paragraphs, and footnotes more accurately and filters out low-confidence noise.
  • More model options: built-in chat adds presets for Gemini, OpenCode Go, and Xiaomi MiMo.

Full v1.1.0 changelog

New features

  • Change the app data location, with automatic migration, data verification, and cleanup of the original location.
  • Linkly AI is available in Claude’s connector directory. Search for Linkly AI to add it.
  • Document previews include heading-based navigation, with links to individual sections.
  • Note drafts save automatically and can be recovered after an unexpected exit or restart, preserving content that wasn’t saved manually.
  • Global shortcuts can be cleared, and a new shortcut opens the main window.
  • Built-in chat adds provider presets for Gemini, OpenCode Go, and Xiaomi MiMo.
  • An upgraded OCR layout recognition model improves headings, paragraphs, and footnotes, and automatically removes low-confidence noise.
  • [CLI] linkly auth login lets you sign in by confirming in the browser, without manually copying an API key.
  • [CLI] Save LAN connections and reconnect with --lan. Run linkly doctor to check local, remote, and LAN connections in one pass.
  • [CLI] Use LINKLY_CONFIG_DIR to choose where credentials are stored.
  • [Skills] Support for CLI browser login, LAN connections, and the updated linkly doctor diagnostics.
  • [Web] Each account can create up to 10 API keys and view usage for each key.

Improvements

  • The Agent Usage page updates the CLI or Skills as soon as a new version is detected, instead of waiting up to a day. Automatic updates must be enabled.
  • English search snippets and highlights match whole words. Searching for AI no longer matches words such as email or Mountain.
  • grep correctly matches text containing special characters in RTF, DOC, and HTML documents.
  • On slow or proxied connections, chat requests no longer fail immediately because of connection timeouts. Errors show a specific reason.
  • The main window remembers its size after a forced exit, an update, or a move between displays with different resolutions. It shrinks automatically if it would extend beyond the screen.
  • Network retries for cloud OCR and speech transcription no longer deduct credits more than once.
  • File paths are redacted more thoroughly in diagnostic reports. Manually submitted reports include more logs to help identify problems.
  • [MCP] When remote MCP encounters a Pro plan requirement, an offline Desktop app, or a timeout, it returns a clear explanation to the AI assistant instead of a generic tool-call failure.
  • [CLI] Help text and output have been rewritten to make them clearer for people and agents.
  • [Skills] Updated remote MCP error guidance helps agents recommend the correct next steps.

Bug fixes

  • Fixed local models such as Ollama and LM Studio being unable to chat when no API key was provided.
  • Fixed the MissingSessionID error with OpenCode Go.
  • Fixed errors or empty answers when Gemini called tools.
  • Fixed provider preset changes not filling in the provider name, and cloud services incorrectly showing a message intended for local services that allowed the field to remain empty.
  • Fixed the activity area continuing to show “Running” after a conversation reached its step limit.
  • Fixed the context menu failing to open files on other disks or external volumes in the default app.
  • Fixed index rebuilds while indexing was paused incorrectly reporting that scanning or indexing was already in progress.
  • Fixed CSV files with unrecognized encodings staying in “Processing” and retrying every hour.
  • Fixed semantic indexing occasionally stalling while OCR was running.
  • [CLI] Fixed curl | sh installation failures on macOS and Linux. The installer now verifies downloaded files.
  • [Web] Fixed authors without usernames displaying incorrectly on cloud library pages.
