Semantic search can run in the cloud now

Pro users can switch semantic indexing to the cloud. It is considerably faster, search results are sharper, and — the part you feel most — your own CPU and memory stop being tied up for long stretches. A large library can index in the background while you carry on working.

Local indexing is not going anywhere. It stays the default and stays fully offline; the cloud is a switch you can flip back at any time. This release also gave notes a timeline and a tag filter.

How to switch

Open Settings → AI and set the embedding service to cloud. It needs a Linkly account with a Pro subscription.

Documents added after the switch go through the cloud. Indexes you have already built locally are neither discarded nor rebuilt, so flipping the switch never costs you a full re-index. The same switch takes you back.

When to stay local

Keep it local when the files are confidential, or when you simply do not want content leaving this machine. Local indexing behaves exactly as it always has and works with no network at all.

Two new ways into your notes

• Timeline navigation — scroll your notes by date, which beats scrolling a list when you are after "that one from last month".
• Tag filter bar — narrow by tag directly, without typing a query.

Scanned files take one less detour

A scanned PDF that already carries a hidden text layer now has that text accepted once it passes a check, instead of being queued for recognition all over again. Magazine-style pages — a full-page image with visible text — are no longer mistaken for scans either. Together these cut a large slice off the time it takes to get a batch of documents into a library.
